About the company

BMW Rider Training is a motorcycle training provider based in Cambridge. It offers courses for riders of all experience levels, including CBT for complete novices and Direct Access (DAS) for those seeking a motorcycle licence. Advanced post-test training is available for experienced motorcyclists, along with intensive courses that can lead to full A-category and A2-category licences for riders under 24. Back to biking refresher training and RoSPA assessment are also offered.

Specific courses include a 7-day intensive Direct Access Course, a 2-day CBT Enhanced Course, and a 1-day Back to Riding Refresher Course. Training takes place in purpose-built modern facilities using dedicated training areas. Each centre has a fleet of BMW motorcycles, from the BMW G 310 R to the R 1300 GS, which is professionally maintained and replaced annually. The company also caters for Module 1, Module 2, ROSPA and IAM Advanced Skills.

What customers say

Based on genuine customer reviews

BMW Rider Training attracts riders working towards a full motorcycle licence, and feedback repeatedly centres on seven-day DAS and rookie-to-rider packages that bundle CBT, Mod 1 and Mod 2 preparation into one stint. Pacing is a recurring theme, with reviewers describing first-attempt passes on both module tests after arriving with little or no previous road experience. Instructors named in feedback include Bob, Toby, Dave and Denis, credited with patience, clear demonstration of manoeuvres and the confidence-building that riders link directly to their test results. The loan of kit and machines also features, one customer noting that replacement gear was supplied without fuss when their own proved unsuitable in wet weather.

A back-to-riding refresher day for an already licensed motorcyclist appears among the accounts, indicating that the school accommodates differing ability levels. Various customers describe the thorough briefing before each new exercise, which leaves riders feeling prepared for the next stage rather than hurried towards an examination. Coaching is portrayed as building safe, competent riding rather than simply securing a pass, and the team's enthusiasm runs through the feedback. A further point that comes up often is the early use of larger machines such as the F750 GS.

Just completed an intensive course. Amazing experience from start to finish. The kit, equipment and facilities available were great. The coaching couldn't have been better. Couldn't recommend these guys enough. Many thanks to my instructor Toby and my course mate Mitch 👍

I came here two years ago to complete my CBT and had a really great experience. So when it came to deciding where to do my unrestricted licence, I knew I’d be coming back. I had Denis for the 6-day DA course and he was fantastic. A really welcoming guy who was informative, professional, and just easy to get on with. He was an excellent coach, clearly explaining what needed improving and how to fix it, which really helped develop my riding. Thank you so much for all your help — I’ll definitely be back for some advanced rider training in the future. I can’t recommend this place enough!

I recently completed an Intensive 7 day DAS course at the BMW centre in Royston with no previous riding experience. I had Toby as our main instructor for the week and the instruction was absolutely brilliant. Perfectly paced and delivered - leading to a first time pass for both Mod 1 & 2. You can tell the entire team is passionate about what they do - teaching you to ride safely! At each stage I felt throughly prepared for what was next to come - and the benefit of doing it intensively is you really have time to practice the skills learned, and iron out any issues while it’s fresh in your mind. I work in a safety critical industry, and chose BMW as I know how important it is to lay the best foundations early on in any new skill. If you’re thinking about learning to ride - they will teach you way beyond the basic requirements to pass the test. Thanks for a great week - and a special thanks to Toby again for being such a great instructor!

I have just finished my 7 day intensive course with BMW at Royston and can’t say enough good things! I had a little bit of experience with bikes but had never ridden properly on the road and it had been over 15 years since then. Thanks to the excellent instruction and mentoring from all of the team at Royston I was able to get my CBT and pass my MOD1 & 2 on the first try and can’t thank them all enough for their patience and commitment throughout the week. Special thanks to Denis, Ashley, the double Dave’s and Julie, thank you so much! 🙏

I recently passed my motorcycle driving licence in just eight days, despite having no previous experience riding a motorcycle. I completed the seven-day DAS course, along with one additional day to retake the Mod 2 test. My instructors, Denis and Toby, were exceptional, they were highly experienced and full of great advice. They took the time to clearly explain and demonstrate manoeuvres until I fully understood them. With their support, my confidence steadily increased throughout the week. I highly recommend the BMW Training Centre for its tailored training approach and premium equipment. Riding the F800 GS was an outstanding experience.

Just completed a 7day DAS course. Nervous but excited about finally putting myself forward for my bike test, after wanting to complete it for 40 yrs of not riding. I can honestly say, Bob my instructor, was very good at the way he understood my capabilities and his constant direction, not only to instruct on my riding skills but giving me the understanding of safe and competent riding. For anyone thinking about a DAS course I would highly recommend the BMW Rider Training Centre at Royston and specifically Bob!

AMAZING experience! Course: 6-Day DAS Unrestricted Age: 36 Prior experience: Riding a 125cc for a year on sunny days Instructor: Toby I booked with BMW because I wanted a course that was both intensive and professional. My CBT the previous year wasn't great, so this time I was determined to get the best training possible for my unrestricted license — and I’m SO glad I chose BMW Royston. My instructor, Toby, was outstanding. He brought out the best in my riding and was incredibly patient as my confidence grew over the week. His passion for motorcycling and his energy were contagious, which made the whole experience enjoyable — the week flew by! At first, I was worried about handling the heavier bikes, but by the end of the week I was confidently riding one-handed (clutch control), picking up cones, and placing them around the training pad. My confidence skyrocketed thanks to Toby’s expert guidance — something I couldn’t have achieved without his help. Top tip: Listen to your instructors — even if it sounds scary at first. Trust their advice and follow it to the letter, just like I did, and you’ll have an amazing time. I can’t thank Toby enough for the experience I had at BMW Rider Training. A great instructor truly makes all the difference — and now, thanks to him, I have my full Unrestricted ‘A’ license! 100% would recommend over and over.
