What customers say

Based on genuine customer reviews

Weekday sessions in Peterborough run from ten in the morning until half past two, with no Saturday or Sunday availability, and this fits around learners needing to fit the five-day course into a working week. Accounts of the intensive course diverge sharply once the tuition itself is set aside. Several mention instructors, including one named Malcolm, as patient and encouraging with complete beginners, building confidence through concentrated practical driving covering manoeuvres and road positioning.

Classroom theory sessions with mock tests are described by some as thorough preparation for the hazard-perception and theory elements ahead of the practical stage. A number of learners report feeling ready to sit a test after just five days without needing extra lessons beforehand. Other reviewers describe a markedly different outcome, with promised assistance in booking a test or arranging a car for the exam failing to appear, instructors leaving mid-course, and refunds seen as not matching what was paid.

Poor communication once the intensive week finishes is a further recurring complaint, with some pupils saying they had to arrange additional private lessons afterwards to feel properly prepared. Given this contrast, outcomes seem to depend heavily on which instructor is assigned and how much follow-up support materialises once the structured week concludes, rather than on the tuition itself.

Please read the small print of this company before booking their five day course. Let me tell you the details. My daughter saved up £1,600 to complete a course with FiveDay Intensive Courses, and unfortunately, it was a very disappointing experience. She did everything expected — attended all sessions, engaged fully, and passed her theory test first time. After passing, she was told to give her certificate to the instructor so they could move her on to booking the driving test. This wasn’t true, and she was later told to “check the small print” and book it herself. She managed to book a test easily through DVSA, but after that, support completely dropped off. She couldn’t book extra lessons, was given excuses about using the instructor’s car for her test, and even had a two-hour lesson cancelled on the morning because the instructor forgot about a doctor’s appointment. For £1,600, the lack of support and poor customer service is unacceptable. Once the course is finished, there seems to be no real interest in helping students actually pass. I would strongly advise other parents and students to think carefully before booking.

My daughter completed the week long intensive. That was ok, she could drive with a bit of supervision at the end. Absolutely zero help thereafter. Lots of promises of support but you don’t get any. Always an excuse. The driving instructor reluctantly took her for an assessment to use his car for the test. Said she wasn’t ready. She passed her test a week later with 3 minors. Shambolic and borderline scam. Avoid. Go elsewhere. UPDATE: As I can't reply to the response, I thought I'd add it here. There are facts you have left out. So let's be transparent about those. Your instructor told my daughter that she wasn't test ready after her week with him. We fully agree. However, he said that she needed more lessons and that he was too busy to do them. But when she had a test lined up, he would be on hand to support. It took us 2 months to get a test booked, hence it was 2 months before we got in touch. When we asked for our complimentary assessment for the test, you refused to give it because it was in Grantham. She failed with 5 minors and 1 major. She tried to get the corrective sessions (as per your website), you refused to give those too as it she didn't use a 5Day car for the test (doesn't stipulate that anywhere). We were very fortunate to get another test booked a month or so later in Peterborough and so asked for another assessment. This took two attempts because you initially said you don't cover Peterborough, despite doing the lessons there. You are correct, the instructor did record some serious shortcomings with her driving. And yet she passed with only 3 minors and no further lessons shortly after. Why? To get us to part with more cash. Also, it was the instructor who told her she would be better off with her car as it was more familiar to her. Another cop out. I didn't call you a scam. I called you a BORDERLINE scam. You deliver just enough to stay on the right side of that line. You promise so much in your marketing and website. But you deliver so little in reality. I hope you take the time to improve your service instead of downplaying the negative reviews you receive.

PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE BOOKING A COURSE! I booked a 5-day course in August 2024 and after waiting for 15 months, I was finally given a test date for May 2026. Yes, I know the DVSA has long waiting times (around 11 months), but this company completely misled me. They bragged about having a “dedicated team” who would find me an earlier test within 4 months — which was clearly just a line to take my money. How on earth do they expect anyone to do a 5-day course and then somehow keep it all fresh for 21 months before a test? It’s ridiculous. They clearly don’t care about their customers at all — just about getting paid. My course reference number is - SD-Y19P7, incase you claim this review is fake!

DO NOT DO AN INTENSIVE through 5day! I just ‘completed’ my intensive course. Basically overpaid for 20 hours of driving lessons. My driving instructor left and all they gave me was a £60 refund. No driving test, already passed my theory before starting the course. So unhelpful. Now having more private lessons to get used to a car for the test and had to book test myself. Buyers beware!

James was fantastic. Past first time with 5 James and 5 DAY. He didn’t just help me prepare physically for the test but mentally as well, put me in a great mindset to succeed and I can be more thankful to 5Day and James

I did this a few years ago. The theory training was really good. driving teacher fine , but a week later when I went todo the test, they did not gave me instructions on where to meet so I assumed it would be the pace We met for the five days for the theory training... but it wasn't they expected me to know to meet in a car park but did not tell me this. When I contacted the company after I miss my test. They then tried to blame me saying that's where we met the driving instructors for the 5 days. But how was I know that's where to meet for the test?? They was very rude and unhelpful. Payed nearly 1k for a theory test and no test or anything else after. Would not recommend. This was a few years ago so I hope they have improved since then. I just wouldn't say it's worth the money.

Review updated to address the dishonest response from 5day - The face that the instructor was in hospital is absolutely not the issue at all and is a cop out from your side .. after 2 weeks of no lesson due to his holiday ( fair enough he’s entitled to a holiday) several messages where sent to try book a lesson and was told he would book it ( seemed reluctant to book without us leaving a review first ) He then unfortunately went into hospital. The problem was then when I called 5 day to ask why they didn’t advise us he was in hospital, and if there was another instructor …. The response was … “ it’s the learners responsibility to find additional lessons and another Instuctor, all 5 day do is provide 5 days and then look for a rapid test” so yes left to it! Also still not heard any thing about a test nor had a response From my complaint. I will however like to stress that this review is of no reflection of the instructor, we got on well and I felt he taught me a lot in the five days. This company is a CON! Absolutely would not recommend, taking ALOT of money from young people and delivering absolutely nothing! After the 5 days they wash there hands of you as if you are nothing, if you need more lessons that is your own responsibility even if the instructor is off for several weeks they will not provide another. Had to find a whole new instructor. No communication from them about a test, having to call every 2-3 weeks to check if even still on the list and when you do call the people that answer are so Rude and have 0 customer service! Be very careful before giving this company any money at all!
