Castle Valley Ltd

Castle Valley Ltd is a driving school based in Hull, East Yorkshire. Gordon, the instructor, has 40 years of driving experience and is an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI). The business provides one-to-one tuition and offers an assessment lesson.

It offers manual or automatic intensive courses in four, six hour or 2 day sessions. A fast track service is available for those who need a licence quickly, and recovery courses are offered for learners on their last test opportunity. Training for ADI part 2 and part 3 is also provided.

Confidence building is the thread that ties the feedback together, and Gordon is the instructor credited with it again and again. Learners recount arriving with considerable anxiety, in one instance after a cycling incident, and earlier tuition with other instructors that had worsened the situation rather than helped. Gordon comes across consistently as patient, calm and reassuring, offering explanations that are clear enough for pupils to grasp both what they are doing and why it matters. His humour is singled out as something that relaxes people during lessons.

Reliability is another strand: when one pupil turned up with a practical test already booked following trouble with a different provider, tuition was sorted out and the test was passed at the first attempt, while a further account records a first-time pass with no faults at all. Reviewers note that time was spent covering the more demanding stretches of the local test routes, which left a learner unfamiliar with the area feeling genuinely ready. Being prepared for the test, and having the belief to take it on, is the point people come back to most often.
