About the company

Abbey Rider Training is Swindon's longest running bike school. It was the first to offer a free introduction lesson. The school is accredited by the Motorcycle Industry Accreditation Centre (MCIAC) and is independently inspected and audited to ensure service levels exceed DVSA requirements.

Honda approached Abbey Rider Training to become one of their approved schools. It offers motorcycle training from complete novice through to full licence, advanced lessons, and back to biking for 'Rusty Riders'. The school avoids intensive courses, and its courses are structured so they can be modified to suit any skill level.

What customers say

Based on genuine customer reviews

Calm, patient coaching for riders moving through different licence stages comes through as the main theme in feedback for this Cheney Manor Road provider, with instructors Kurt and Jess named throughout accounts covering CBT, A2 upgrades and full direct access training. Training plans are described as well structured, often arranged around weekend availability to fit work commitments, and pupils frequently note completing their theory and practical modules without picking up minor faults along the way.

Several accounts describe riders returning to the same pair across different years, starting with an initial CBT and later coming back for full licence tuition, pointing to continuity in the way lessons are delivered. Jess is often credited with sorting out bookings efficiently and rearranging schedules when unexpected setbacks arose, while Kurt's teaching is repeatedly described as clear and reassuring, particularly for those feeling nervous or under time pressure.

Riders already holding an A2 licence mention sharpening existing skills rather than starting from scratch, with instruction kept straightforward both in discussion and out on the road. A sense of professionalism combined with genuine passion for the subject runs through the feedback. Based at BSS House, the school opens every day of the week, including Sunday mornings and afternoons, giving CBT and direct access candidates flexibility around other commitments.

I have just passed my full bike licence with Abbey Rider Training. I decided last month that I wanted a motorbike and fancied going touring and widening my social circle. After passing my theory test I emailed the top three google hits for motorcycle training in Swindon. All three companies replied, but Abbey Rider Training sent me such a detailed and comprehensive email with timelines and prices; where the other two replies were aloof and secretive, so I choose Abbey Training on that basis. I cannot speak highly enough of every part of this process, the training was impeccable, obviously informative but exhilarating, fun and more importantly comprehensive. I felt entirely confident & comfortable for all three of the tests that took me from zero to hero. All of the staff were extremely personable as well as professional. The majority of my training time was spent with Kurt, the owner of Abbey Rider Training and he is clearly a master of his trade. I gleaned so much information and wisdom from him, again personable so much so that I am actually disappointed the training has now finished as I got on so well with him. If you are reading this because you are considering anything from a CBT through to a full licence, honestly, you will not be disappointed. I cannot thank the Abbey Rider Team enough.

I booked with these people and it took a long time to get a date for his first part. Then we didn't get responses for second part. I eventually heard and the trainer said she had hurt her foot and could not give date. Ive now tried to get a reply and new dates but, nothing , all messages ignored recently. Im now requesting all funds returned so I can go elsewhere. Ive been trying since last March to get this resolved. Its been a total shambles. Poor communication and a lot of fobbing off procrastinating. No replies to my texts and no calls answered.

Did my CBT, Mod 1 & Mod 2 with jess & Kurt. Great instructors with a plethora of knowledge & experience. They were very patient and accommodating & got me through the Mod 2 with no minor faults. Thanks again!

Absolutely amazing riding school. Coming in as a complete noob with a CBT and a hooligan bike waiting in the wings... Kurt was nothing but patient, adapted his teaching skills so I could actually learn something both on the bike and in the 'classroom'. You will learn so much with this one, his standards are second to none. Jess is equally as awesome, like your own personal cheerleader, nothing is too much trouble... even when you mess the dates up!! Got me through Mod 1 and 2 first time and when I got a bit more experience im going back for the After Party 🎉 to really hone in on those real life riding skills. Remember head shoulders knees and toes for show and tell!! Genuine warm kinda hug thank you guys.

Excellent communication and support from Kurt and Jess to polish up my riding to upgrade from A2 to full A license. Really friendly and great advice given across the entire training course and tests. Would highly recommend Abbey Rider Training to anyone which is looking to get on 2 wheels.

I had an amazing experience with Abbey’s Rider Training while working towards my full bike licence. From start to finish, the support and professionalism from the whole team was outstanding. A huge thank you to my instructors Jess and Kurt, who were both incredibly patient, knowledgeable, and encouraging throughout the entire process. They explained everything clearly, helped build my confidence on the road, and made every lesson enjoyable. The entire team at Abbey’s Rider Training were supportive from day one, always making sure I felt comfortable and ready for each step of the journey. Thanks to their guidance and great training approach, I was able to achieve my full bike licence in less than 2 months, which I’m really proud of. If you’re thinking about getting your motorcycle licence, I highly recommend Abbey’s Rider Training. Fantastic instructors, a supportive team, and a great learning environment. Thank you all for helping me reach this goal!

Used these people again because i was happy with them when i was younger doing cbt. Just done my A license with them. Spot on. Very flexable regarding training dates. The price was well worth it. Jess managed my shedule perfectly. Jess, who did my cbt part, is very friendly and clearly experienced. She spotted my undone boot lace when she was riding in front. Kurt, the trainer who does the A license is amazing, he is calm, friendly and patient. He seems to know exactly why youre doing things wrong, and will tailor the training to exctly what you or your fellow trainee need. Absorb everything he says. He also seems to know everything generally about motorcycling. He is clearly very experienced. I think he is part motorbike.
