Spent the day with i2i for a knee down course. My main reason for this course was to build the confidence on the corners - if I got my knee down.. bonus! (New rider of 1 year when I took this course) I didn't manage to get my the knee down (my husband did) but I was close, restricted pants and poor upper body positioning for sure. No handers in a circle achieved, also learnt a lot about the bike, gravity and how it works! I felt I was just getting into the exercise then we had to swap over riders again. I guess we all learn at our own paces, and like we were told maybe starting at MC1 & 2 would have been more beneficial, but I like to run before I can walk. Fab day
Brilliant practical exercises, but unfortunately the theory falls way short. Tom is a great storyteller, but I'd say that around half of what he presents as facts is demonstrably wrong - bike tech, anatomy, manufacturer info etc. So just bear this in mind when attending and don't blindly accept his claims, anything that raises an eyebrow can be fact checked after (he's not interested in this, so no point bothering, he'll just double down). I still highly value MC1/MC2 for their superb practical elements. Feedback during exercises would be beneficial, we had hardly any. The York site is quite rough in places, lots of potholes/tarmac damage in the exercise area for MC1/2 (the area for knee down is better).
As I live in Rep of Ireland I thought I would buy the book 'Mastering The Machine'. I am a fairly new rider, this book has brought my riding on so much compared to other courses / training materials, I can't recommend it enough. Will have to work out if I can get to one of your courses in the new year.
Honestly I feel that I learnt more in the 8 hours with Tom than I have done riding myself for 36 years. I have never previously got my left knee down other than on a track by accident but today, I was consistent and more important confident both sides. Even the balance exercises at the start of the day turning with no hands on the bars were both fun and educational. This is the most fun I've had on a bike since I was 10 and the best money I've spent on ME in a very long time. I'm seriously thinking doing it all again.
I would highly recommend the Knee Down Course at Millbrook. Tom and Danny held an excellent day, with lots of laughter, lots of riding and I learned a great deal. Tom’s approach was a breath of fresh air with no time wasted on red tape or safety briefings and his sense of humour was brilliant. Once he could see we could all ride safely, we were straight into it and we wasted no time tackling the task at hand - getting the knee down. There were 9 of us in the group, which was about enough and it meant a decent amount of time on the bikes, with two bikes being ridden at once, rotating regularly. The whole group got their knee down and in the process, I learned a lot about cornering that will help me be a better rider on the road. The day lasted about 3 and a half hours and that was enough as we were knackered by the end. I would recommend this course and would recommend any course that Tom is instructing as it was a great laugh and he’s obviously very knowledgeable. A couple of things to note. No phones or cameras are allowed at Millbrook and there are no spectators allowed, so come on your own or they’ll have to wait in the car park. In my opinion, It’s better without a massive group of spectators anyway. Thanks very much. I hope to be back again. Tom
Knee down training (21/7/25 - wet day) Tom's teaching style goes down smoother than a cup of tea on a rainy day. His improvement steps sneak up on you before you know it, you're riding better, feeling cooler and wondering if you've accidentally become a MotoGP rider 😃 I walked away a smarter and sharper rider! And yes, I finally got that elusive majestic knee down without crashing into a barrier. Absolute win! Highly recommend this course unless you enjoy riding like a nervous llama. Darek
Brilliant course run by a man who cuts through the myths and legends of motorcycling and leaves you with a massively improved level of confidence. The demos and explanations are superb and his ability to get to the core of the techniques are unsurpasssed. He's also hilarious which really helps.
