4.7 / 5 · 20 totalMy experience with Capital Driver Training was poor. I recently completed an intensive course, which consisted of 35 hours over two and half weeks. Firstly their booking and payment system is frustrating and flawed. They require you to pay a deposit before they can even confirm they have availability on particular dates. Then if they can't supply suitable dates, the onus is on the customer to request a refund. After paying my deposit, I didn't receive a proper email confirmation. Then, when I received the request for the remainder of the payment, I was not supplied with an invoice, I had to request one. I was also asked to bring along a signed copy of their terms and conditions to my first lesson, but these were also not supplied. Again I had to request them. It was pretty shoddy and unprofessional, and this was before I'd even sat in a car. Then the quality of instruction was poor. It seems a bit grand to describe what I undertook as a 'course' - there was no structured learning or development stages or goals or targets. It was merely a series of consecutive lessons. My instructor was amiable enough, but was not very professional. He spent the majority of each lesson chatting about his personal life and sharing his views on every conceivable topic, to the point that I lost count the amount of times I had to ask which direction I should turn at the end of a road because he was too busy talking. There was also very little rigour or structure to the teaching. It was all very lacklustre and vague. For instance, I was not even told that the driving test had a section called 'show me, tell me' questions. I found out about this myself on the internet two days before my test, then had to specifically ask the instructor to talk me through it. Also as the 'course' went on, he was 10 minutes late most days so I probably only had 34 hours of instruction for the price of 35. Needless to say I did not pass after completing this set of lessons. They were an expensive waste of time and money and I would not recommend Capital Driver Training.
I passed with Sean in Edinburgh the first time in 2015 with only 2 minors. Before I met Sean I had had two previous instructors who were sub par in comparison. Sean corrected me up straight away and made me feel at ease, confident and happy to be driving. Always straight to the point, helpful and easy to understand instructions. I cannot recommend him enough! 😁
I found Capital Driver Training online, and was a little suspicious about how glowing the feedback seemed to be for Sean and his business. A few weeks later I can safely say he's earned all the praise and more. He was friendly, professional and accommodating. Worked with me to iron out a few kinks in my schedule and brilliantly coached me to a first time pass. Already passed his details to a few palls, and would be happy to recommend him to any aspiring drivers. Cheers Sean!
I sincerely recommend CDT to anybody needing to (1) learn to drive safely and confidently, and (2) pass their driving test. My instructor, Sean, very quickly noticed all of the gaps in my skills and we systematically addressed them over the course of the 15 hour intensive sessions (I'd been a learner driver on and off for 10 years, so the gaps were plentiful). I went from having a deep lack of confidence in my driving to a feeling of real readiness to take my practical test, something I didn't think would be easy, let alone possible in 15 hours of lessons. I subsequently passed my test on the first attempt and still retain the driving confidence I built up during the lessons. What I particularly liked was that the lessons were not some series of "hacks" to help me pass a test. They were a method to build me up into a good driver that was able to easily pass the driving test. In short, I cannot recommend CDT highly enough. If you want to learn to drive well and pass your test in a compressed time period then this is the way to do it.
I would highly recommend Sean as a driving instructor. He has a great understanding of teaching driving skills, and explains procedures clearly and accurately. I had previously failed my test and had not driven for a few months before I started lessons with him. Sean quickly spotted areas I needed focused practise on and his lessons quickly built my confidence. He targeted areas at a good pace and I improved steadily. Soon after I was able to pass my test with only 3 minors which is testament to his teaching and instilling good habits - especially when it came to roundabouts! Thank you again Sean.
I had booked the 15hr, 5 day intensive course. My instructor (Dimitrios) was very polite and sociable. His timekeeping was punctual and after discussion, had accommodated changes to lesson times. He was constructive with every peice of feedback given. Very knowledgeable, very professional. 5 stars for CDT.
I just passed my test today and I have never been so happy. I have been driving on and off for a while now and have been with a few instructors but I never managed to pass my test, mainly because I was a nervous person behind the wheel of a car and I hated driving. I vowed to "never drive again" after a bad experience and only approached Sean as I needed to pass for work. I was very nervous in my first lesson and was dreading the entire thing. I think I had convinced myself that I just couldn't drive, that I was one of those people who shouldn't be allowed to! I booked in with Capital Driving as I needed to pass ASAP for work and after a long search I found that they were the most efficient and flexible for intensive courses. On my first lesson I was instantly put at ease by Sean's friendly yet professional approach to teaching and was really impressed with how some things just clicked after lessons. I had a lot of bad habits and completely lacked in confidence but Sean made me feel at ease and that I was able to drive without constantly shaking! Sean has more patience than anyone I have ever met, he would need to teaching me. He explains things really well and managed to get me to do the left reverse (something I hated) without panicking. I would really recommend this driving school - I have been with others in the past before but I wish I had gone with this School from the beginning. The lessons are great value for money and you know that Sean is an honest person - if he feels like you only need a certain amount of lessons he will tell you so. In addition, due to time constraints, I had to book a really early cancellation test and Sean worked around this with me, making sure he was available on the day and gave me lessons at an awkward time the day before. I never thought I would pass and believe if it wasn't for Sean I wouldn't have either. You can tell Sean likes his job and he is good at it. No grumpy moods, no irritability - he had patience with me when I had lost it with myself! Thanks again Sean, I could not have done it without your help. Nikki
