About the company

Saferide Motorcycle & Scooter Training is run by Tony Iles in partnership with a team of instructors. Tony Iles is Managing Partner and Chief Instructor, having bought Saferide Motorcycle Training in January 2018 with the help of the team. He started teaching for Saferide in 2015 and took CBT and DAS assessments, and holds the IAM advanced rider qualification. The partners are Sue Kwiatkowska (Training Co-ordinator), Des Southon (New Rider & CBT Instructor), Ian Thompson (CBT & DAS Instructor), John Moore (CBT & DAS Instructor) and Jake Lickley (New Rider & CBT Instructor).

Instructors include Malcolm Fish, who started teaching in 2016 and instructs on CBT and the A1 licence, Roy Grassie (New Rider & CBT Instructor), Steve Iles (Maintenance Instructor) and Clair Blackwell (Administration Assistant). All instructors are fully certified to train both new and already qualified riders. Based in Southwick, about 4 miles from Brighton city centre, Saferide has a CBT training site in the Brighton & Hove district. Course fees are fully inclusive of training fees, bike hire, fully comprehensive insurance, safety riding equipment and test fees.

What customers say

Based on genuine customer reviews

Patient coaching and a relaxed atmosphere run through the accounts left about this Southwick motorcycle training provider. A number of customers describe completing CBT sessions, renewals and full licence routes, including A2 and DAS programmes, and named instructors such as Tony, Jake, Roy, Ian, John, Des and Malcolm are repeatedly singled out for putting nervous riders at ease.

Reviewers often mention the clarity of feedback, with mistakes corrected constructively rather than under pressure, and sessions kept engaging even across long training days. The fleet of machines and access to the Mod 1 test centre are highlighted as practical advantages that leave learners feeling properly prepared, while the office side is described as efficient and well organised. Progress from a first CBT through to Mod 1 and Mod 2 passes features in many accounts, as does the confidence riders build on dual carriageways and in traffic.

A point that comes up often is the blend of humour and thorough teaching, with the team's enthusiasm for motorcycling coming through in how sessions are run. The spread of bikes available for practice, from 125cc scooters to larger machines, supports riders working towards different licence categories. Many accounts close on the sense of achievement after passing, with Tony's calm manner during an A2 course a typical example of the support described.

I came to safe ride for a 4 day A2 course I was really nervous at the start but ended up passing first time. I want to give the biggest shout out to tony my instructor. I had a great experience with Saferide. I did my CBT there and my DAS. For my DAS I had Tony as my instructor and he put me at ease with his jokes and laid back personality. I think for something that can be as stressful as this - thats exactly what you need. Someone who can criticise you but not put you under too much pressure or stress you out. Would recommend to anyone to use Saferide if you’re looking to do your CBT or DAS. The things they teach you are invaluable and you’ll have fun learning 😊

I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better CBT experience! 😁 I’d never ridden a motorcycle before, so I was pretty nervous going into it, but Des and Jake were absolutely brilliant. They were patient, encouraging, explained everything clearly, and made me feel comfortable from the very beginning. They really helped build my confidence throughout the day 🙈 What surprised me most was how much I enjoyed it. It ended up being one of the best experiences I’ve had in a long time, and I left with a huge smile on my face. I can’t thank Des and Jake enough for making my first time on a bike such a positive and memorable experience. I’d recommend them to anyone thinking about doing their CBT. Thanks again, guys!

I had a brilliant experience training with Saferide. Jake and Tony are exceptional instructors, really thorough in their teaching but always manage to keep the sessions fun and engaging. Their feedback throughout the day is spot‑on, supportive, and helps you build confidence quickly. The facilities, bikes, and equipment are all top‑notch, and having access to the actual Mod 1 test centre makes a huge difference. You feel properly prepared. The Mod 2 training was brilliant also covering several routes with excellent coaching. Overall, I thoroughly recommend Saferide to anyone looking for high‑quality motorcycle training. Professional, enjoyable, and genuinely confidence‑building.

Superb training. My brother and I passed our DAS first time with under Ian’s instruction. He has no end of patience or knowledge, we had a really good laugh and he managed my brother’s anxiety very well. Great sense of community at SafeRide with Tony, the other instructors and even the instructors from other schools. Highly recommend, wish we’d done our CBT here. The bikes are really nice and the gear is good 👍🏻

Had the best experience on my CBT at Saferide. Great coaching, bikes were fab, and feel confident in the new skills I’ve learned. Roy and the team were amazing at fitting so much information and new techniques into one day, would definitely recommend 😊

Had my CBT on 125cc automatic. What a fantastic day. Nerves soon went. Ian & Des were brilliant from start to finish. Really took time to help and teach. If you want any training on a motorbike/moped etc look no further. Thanks guys. I will be back to do my fully motorcycle licence in time
